The best way to start is a 4-week Online Beginner Pilates block. The class size is small and all participants will get attention and feedback. If you are planning to join my studio classes in Kirkcaldy, just buy a Beginner class block. If you want to have further individual attention, you can also book a private class on Zoom or in person with me.
During your beginner block you will have access to the Notes: Pilates Basics and Notes: Posture fixes under Video Library. You may find these helpful in understanding the technique.
STRONG FOUNDATIONS VIDEO SERIES. If you wish to learn in your own time, you can buy the Monthly On-Demand price plan and take video classes instead. I've created two video series that go over all the beginner level Pilates exercises with minimal equipment required. You only need a mat and later on in the series a cushion/rolled up towel or a mini ball/Pilates circle if you want to invest in one, and a couple of optional light weights (about 2x 0.5kg) which can also be just a couple of tins of beans. You may find toward the last couple of classes of each series that some of the exercise options I give are too challenging. That's absolutely ok, I'm just giving some improver (Level 2) options for you to try so you can test if you might be ready for that level yet. If they're too challenging for you for now, stay at Level 1 (beginner level) for a while longer, taking Level 1 classes of the currently running block for example. With these classes we explore some modern exercises too and use more props to vary the exercises. I have two of these video series, one created in 2020 and another in 2021.
Once you've completed Strong Foundations Series 1 and 2 (total of 14 classes), you have learned all the traditional beginner level mat exercises and your TVA and back may be strong enough to move up to Level 2-3. At that next level you start working at improver level and build up towards intermediate. Check the post about moving up to Level 2-3 to find out more!
